:: Drama

little shop of horrorDrama at KTJ is an exciting and challenging subject. Studying drama is a lively and unique way to improve students’ communication skills and confidence. In Forms 1 and 2, pupils work through a fast-paced programme of mime, role-play and improvisation, designed to develop self confidence, oral ability and team-work skills, as well as to stimulate the imagination and creativity.International students continue their studies into the third year and may opt to take the Edexcel GCSE in Form 4, followed by ‘A’ level: Drama and Theatre Studies course in the Sixth Form.

Examination courses are concerned with the skills and techniques of drama as a performance art and are designed to allow pupils to develop their ability as actors and directors, as well as provide the opportunity for the study of the more technical disciplines of lighting, sound and make-up.

Pupils also have the opportunity to take part in regular stage productions organised by the department, either on stage or in a more technical role as part of the backstage team or the sound and lighting crew. In 2007 the drama department teamed up with the music department to create the singing and dancing spectacular – ‘Back to the ’80’s: The totally Awesome Musical!’ The 2008 musical was "The Little Shop of Horrors" which was performed on two evenings in November. Parents are encouraged to attend these events to witness the creative talent of the students.
