The Oxford and Cambridge Society Malaysia organised a one-day Engineering Workshop on Sunday 21st February 2016 at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar (KTJ) in Mantin. It is an educational outreach program for secondary school students from the Klang valley.

The participants, selected from local and international schools, listened to a series of short theoretical lectures before they broke off into groups of 15 to brainstorm, strategise and create inventions to complete 3 engineering tasks: a marble roller coaster run; crash bumper; and an earthquake proof structure. Each of the 7 teams (Keble, Hertford, Darwin, Churchill, Magdalene, Christ’s and Selwyn) had a mentor-facilitator assigned to help them accomplish their task. The teams were named after the Oxford or Cambridge colleges that the facilitator attended.

IET (Malaysia) was invited to be a part of this productive and eye opening event.  IET also played a significant role with a few of the members appointed either as a judge or mentor.  The Chairman Ir Dr Matthew Teow was on hand to give away the prizes, which were sponsored by the IET, at the end of the day.
