KTJ wins a World Summit Youth Award!

Congratulations to the KTJ Global Debates team for its outstanding “Colour Me Green” environmental campaign. This has just won a World Summit Youth Award which will enable the team to be represented at the summit in New York next month. Well done to Stanley and Amirul who will be representing the School at this exciting event.

This is the second year in a row that KTJ teams have won trips to New York, following the success of last year’s Global Debates team.

Speech Day

Speech Day on July 3^rd was a delightful occasion when 105 students, past and present, received prizes. The Chairman of Trustees, YAM Tunku Naquiyuddin, introduced the Guest Speaker, Professor Dr George Lee, the distinguished surgeon and media personality. In an outstanding address, Dr Lee spoke about how he had the opportunity to leave school in Malaysia to attend Cambridge University and go on to be made a consultant surgeon before returning to Malaysia four years ago. Dr Lee’s speech was very well received by the many KTJ students who aspire to enter top universities round the world.

Guests were also able to enjoy music and dance performances by KTJ students.

KTJ Receives CIS Accreditation

KTJ has been accredited by the Council of International schools. In the report which the School received in June 2010, we were commended for:

The poise and welcoming manner of the students
The professionalism, strong sense of caring and hard work of the staff
The direction, continuity and effective support of the Trustees and Governors
The commitment, energy and enthusiasm of the staff for extra-curricular activities
The quality of the support for boarders
The excellent school environment
The Sixth Form staff for their excellent university guidance
The support staff for their hard work in maintaining the facilities and finally
The new Health Centre and the way it provides for more effective health care.

The recommendations for further improvement will be acted upon over the next year, in order to maintain the strong momentum which membership of CIS has generated.

SPM Triumph

The small but talented group of 2009 SPM students achieved excellent results when they were announced in March. Over 50% of the grades were A, and 83% were A or B. Eight students achieved As in at least eight subjects, confirming the quality of the work they had done at KTJ over the past two years.

PMR Success

Well done to last year’s Form 3 Local for their excellent PMR results! Over 80% of their grades were As and Bs, which is a tribute to the hard work of students and teachers. Congratulations to Syed Ali Al Hadi Bin Syed Mustaffa for achieving straight As in his eight subjects.

RECORD NUMBERS AT KTJ

Helped by the new Alia House, a record number of students are attending KTJ this term. Over 600 boys and girls are enrolled , including 200 in the Sixth Form. With another 36 students joining the Lower Sixth in January, the total comes to 110 students taking AS Levels this year.

ALIA HOUSE OPEN

January 10th saw the arrival of the first students into Alia House. After months of finishing and furnishing, the doors were opened to 65 girls this term. Under the watchful eye of Ms Marcel Campbell, the Housemistress, supported by Ms Esmeralda and Ms Rajni as tutors, we look forward to the new girls’ house making a big impact in the School.

A LEVEL SUCCESS

Well done to last year’s Upper Sixth formers for their outstanding A Level results announced in August. 27 students achieved straight A grades and, overall, over 80% of the grades were A or B. This is a superb achievement and reflects a great deal of hard work by our students and their teachers.
