On 17th March, 100 students from 8 schools participated in the 2024 Oxbridge & KTJ Engineering Workshop, where contestants applied their A Level maths and physics knowledge to solve a real world engineering problem: cargo transportation.

Planned and organised by a team of 15 Lower Sixth Form KTJ students led by Aabir and Hazman, under the guidance of Deputy Head of the Sixth Form Mr Ian Chesworth, the project involved constructing a crane to transport loads from one part of a city to another and building a traffic lighting system to regulate traffic flow. Teams then had to present reflections on the day and their project before the crane, level crossing and traffic lights were tested.

Two teams especially stood out, with Darwin College winning The Pascal Prize for the highest points achieved, and Lincoln College being awarded The Tesla Prize for innovation! In addition to having fun, participants attempted to solve a multitude of problems whilst ensuring their project kept on-track to meet the tight deadlines whilst building core engineering skills such as teamwork and resilience. A day to remember!
