Academic Sixth Form

We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of #KTJSixthForm student Wendy, who represented KTJ at the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) 2026 in Suzhou, China.

Wendy earned her place at this prestigious international competition after achieving silver awards in both the individual and team categories during the preliminary round. Her selection alone reflects a high level of academic ability, commitment, and enthusiasm for economics. But the experience itself proved to be far more than a test of knowledge.

A Challenging and Immersive Academic Experience

The International Economics Olympiad is designed to push students beyond textbooks and examinations. Participants are challenged through multiple components, including an individual economics and finance test and a highly demanding business case.

For the business case, students worked collaboratively to analyse the global issue of food waste, developing practical economic solutions grounded in theory, data analysis, and real‑world application. This task required students to think critically, communicate effectively, and balance economic feasibility with social responsibility, developing skills that are increasingly vital in today’s global economy.

Learning Under Pressure

One of the most intense elements of the competition was a 24‑hour business case challenge. Wendy and her teammates worked continuously, refining ideas, analysing data, and preparing their final presentation. Despite managing only around three hours of sleep, the team remained motivated, energised, and fully engaged throughout the process.

This experience provided Wendy with a deeper understanding of how economic theory can be applied to complex, real‑world problems. It also strengthened her analytical thinking, problem‑solving abilities, teamwork, and resilience, qualities that will support her future studies and aspirations well beyond the classroom.

Outstanding Results on an International Stage

Wendy’s dedication and hard work were recognised in the final results, where she received three bronze awards:

  • Best Individual in Economics & Finance
  • Best Team in Business Case Presentation
  • Overall Score Team Awards

These achievements reflect not only academic excellence, but also the ability to collaborate effectively under pressure and contribute meaningfully to a high‑performing team.

Looking Ahead

Participating in the International Economics Olympiad has been a highly valuable and enriching experience for Wendy, offering insight into the realities of global economic challenges and the collaborative nature of modern problem‑solving. It is an experience that will undoubtedly inform and inspire her future academic journey.

A huge congratulations to Wendy on representing KTJ with such distinction. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and look forward to seeing where her passion for economics will take her next.
