Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar (KTJ) has been awarded the International School of the Year 2023 award by the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA).

BSA is the largest association of boarding schools in the world and represents 640 boarding schools, 500 of which are based in the UK. The award recognises a leading international boarding school outside of the UK which demonstrates excellence in boarding, facilities and student welfare. KTJ won the same award in 2021.

Principal, Dr Glenn Moodie, says: “We are delighted to win the International School of the Year award for the second time. We feel it is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our trustees, staff, students and parents who drive our school community forward. KTJ is totally committed to boarding and to providing students with a rich all-round education which prepares them to be true global citizens and the leaders of tomorrow.”

As a BSA accredited member, KTJ was required to meet high standards for quality of boarding experience, boarding premises, and boarding leadership and management.

Director of Boarding, Mr Gary Slade, explains: “The houseparents and boarding staff work incredibly hard to provide an exciting, inclusive and safe boarding environment where our students can flourish. Through boarding, students develop important life skills, gain independence and discover new cultures. These experiences form a strong foundation for our students as they journey through school, to university and life beyond.”

Since 1991, KTJ’s boarding community has grown to over 600 students aged 11 - 19 years and originating from over 24 countries, including China, Indonesia, the Maldives, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and South Korea. KTJ has seven senior boarding houses and one junior boarding house, which is divided into separate wings for males and females.

Robin Fletcher, CEO of the Boarding Schools’ Association and BSA Group, said: “Our annual awards allow us such a fantastic opportunity to support excellence in our boarding community, and celebrate unwavering boarding staff commitment and everything they do to support boarders. I am delighted to see another excellent response to our awards this year and our judging panel have once again been hugely impressed by the standard of entries – selecting winners was certainly no easy task!”

To learn more about boarding at KTJ, book your place on an Open Morning on Saturday 3rd or Saturday 10th June.
